Wash Those Trucks!
A Prayer Answered!
She and Me PJ Party
Me and Brookly
Brookly and I attended the She and Me PJ Party for her Brownie Troop and we were the only ones not in PJ's. I told her I'll have to have Kristy help me make some for Christmas. We had fun and we sang our hearts out at High School Musical karaoke. Now she wants a karaoke machine for Christmas. (OK, I want a karaoke machine for Christmas!) The Bingo games were a little monotonous and we'd like to see more karaoke! We had a great time!Dallin in Uniform!

Dallin looked so handsome in his full uniform for the first time this season. We are so proud of all the hard work and time Dallin puts in. He gets himself up at 5am every morning and is at Band on Tuesday nights until 9:15pm. It's gruelling, but so rewarding! Dallin takes after Wes in this love of trumpet and he definitely has a gift for playing. He's on first trumpet in each band he plays in.

Hurricane Ike

The flooding in Galveston was devastating and there were so many who lost everything. We should count our blessings!
The storm roared ashore hours before daybreak with 110 mph winds and towering waves, smashing houses, flooding thousands of homes, blowing out windows in Houston's skyscrapers, and cutting off power to more than 3 million people, perhaps for weeks.
By evening, it appeared that Ike was not the single calamitous stroke that forecasters had feared. But the full extent of the damage — or even a rough sense of how many people may have perished — was still unclear, in part because many roads were impassable.
Some authorities feared that this could instead become a slow-motion disaster, with thousands of victims trapped in their homes, waiting for days to be rescued.
Officials were encouraged to learn that the storm surge topped out at only 15 feet — far lower than the catastrophic 20-to-25 foot wall of water forecasters had feared.
In downtown Houston, shattered glass rained down on the streets below the JPMorgan Chase Tower, the state's tallest building at 75 stories. Trees were uprooted in the streets, road signs mangled by wind.
"I think we're like at ground zero," said Mauricio Diaz, 36, as he walked along Texas Avenue across the street from the Chase building. Metal blinds from the tower dotted the street, along with red seat cushions, pieces of a wood desk and office documents marked "highly confidential."
Brookly is Student of the Month

Brookly is out front.

Cutest Student of the Month!

Brookly was chosen by her teacher, Mr. Wolf, to be Student of the Month. We are so proud of her!
Wes had a migraine and left late for work so he dropped by to see Brookly and Brennen. Ben wasn't too happy about standing still.
Jarom's Sprained Finger
Tuesday night Jarom was wrestling with a friend who was over and they were on the tile so I told them to calm down and stop wrestling. Sure enough, a few moments later Jarom begins screaming in pain. I have to admit it took me a while to be sympathetic. The pinky started to swell and turn purple and blue. I figured it wasn't broken because he had good range of motion but we put ice on it and taped it and he went to bed. He woke up in the middle of the night hurting even with Tylenol. The next day was Early Release from school so I waited until after school to take him in to Urgent Care. He had to go to the nurse during school for an ice pack. I figured I'd take him after I picked up Brennen's glasses. I took Brennen and Jarom with me. We picked up Brennen's glasses and then took Jarom to Urgent Care. They X-rayed it and it wasn't broken. The Dr. didn't even tape it for him because he seemed fine. Of course I get the drama at home of all the pain and I taped it up for him again. It hurt for about a week and seems to be healing this week. Cute boy! Where does his endless energy come from?Brennen's New Look

My Hats!
Starting with:
I'm an alarm clock, a singing telegram, a signer of documents, a lunch provider, a hairstylist, a calming counselor, an organizer, a declutterer, a soother of souls, a mediator, a shoulder to cry on, a rule maker, a rule breaker, a chauffeur to multiple children, and that's all before 8am.
Then:
I am a patriot and flag hanger, laundress, a dishwasher, a clearer, a pile sorter, again a chauffeur for many appointments and errands, grocery shopper, bargain hunter, birthday organizer and planner ( 2 in Oct.), penny pincher, email letter writer, Visiting Teacher, friend, mother, comforter, provider of nourishment and nap for Ben, bill payer and sorter, and daughter pleading on my knees. Did I mention dictator, maid, authoritative voice of reason?
Then:
I am a taxi, a mom, a dancer, a hide and seek player, a shoulder to cry on or best friend to cheer on, a tutor, a critical thinker, an English professor (college comes in handy), a fighter for righteousness, again the mediator, laundress, chef for dinner, and now enters the PTO involved mom, the Scout Advancement lady, Sunday School teacher, piano teacher, book reader, MIA supporter, maker of treats, wife, lover, confidant, and finally blogger! No wonder I'm always on the verge of sleep and exhausted!
I just wondered where my time went and had to write it all down. I feel better now.
Baby Carson
Brennen and Carson
Julie and Carson
Andrew and Brennen
This was a fun half-family outing. We figured Lynnette and Carson wouldn't be up to the whole Gardner crew so Brookly and Brennen got to tag along with me for the trip to Anthem on Sunday to see Carson. Dallin got to go iceskating Sat. and Josh got to go stargazing. Jarom was the only justified upset one.
3 Strikes And You're OUT!
Strike 1 --Friday Sept. 5th, 08: I got a call from the school nurse saying that Brennen had jumped out of a swing and landed funny on his arm and his wrist was swollen and hurting. She had already sent him back to class so I asked her to give him pain medication and call me if he needed to go to a Dr. No call and he was sore but OK when I picked him up from school. Trip Down Memory Lane in Shumway

Horses were always welcome in these fields and often Grampy had cattle.
Oh, the memories of branding and castration.
Another view of the whole Denham mountain and Grampy's land.
The whole pasture would be under water when it rained hard and the flood water would cause many hours of mending fences.
Just to the West of this part of the land was the Indian Burial Ground. How I wish we had saved more pottery and arrow heads from endless searching and scary fun. Once I even fell about 4 feet when the burial cave under me gave away. I wasn't brave enough to crawl back in but we did find lots of pottery. Eventually some history/archeology people took over and we couldn't play there any more.
For Labor Day, Wes had to work on Saturday. On Sunday, Julie and I went to Shumway to help Kim go through Grammy's pictures. This was no easy or fun task! Grammy had always said she didn't want these books torn apart and that's what we were told to do or we wouldn't get any of our family's pictures. It was hard to do. I felt we betrayed Grammy's trust. I miss her so much. She would have loved this blog and the way we can so easily share pictures now. She was such a huge part of our family's life. I miss her covering one eye to get the perfect picture because of her blindness from the detached retina. I miss visiting for holidays and especially Grampy's Gunny and the whole house decorated for Christmas and the family all together. Hopefully she'll smile as we remake the books for our families and bring them to life again.
The fun part of this weekend was traveling with Julie and learning the rest of the story about Jared. I'll keep you posted:)
