Have to have a hiking stick and firewood.

Josh has always loved being outside and hiking!

In the Lava TubeSam and Wes and their boys
September 12th-13th

Wes took his scouts to the Lava Tube outside Flagstaff and they had a great time. He definitely will wear a helmet next time. The bump on his head shows how low the cave got. The boys had no trouble, just unsure footing on the slippery rocks. This hike was a little dangerous and the boys loved the cave.
This was Josh's first campout with his Dad all to himself because Dallin is now a Varsity Scout.
This hike was baffling to my sweet Engineer husband. The Lava Tube is a straight hike back in about 3/4 mile with 2 separate tunnels that both lead to the back of the cave. Wes thought they took the right tunnel on the way there and pointed out the side tunnel to the boys that they'd come back in on the left. The took the right tunnel and hiked for a while and came out where they started. This was really strange and the boys said they entered another dimension. Oooohhh. Twilight zone. Wes just couldn't figure out where they went wrong. Luckily they ended where they started. There were lots of people in the cave and I'm sure they would have had help to get out but when Wes checked online for others comments about the cave, he found someone else got turned around and hiked twice to the back of the cave. Others on the comments had done the same thing so there must be some confusion once you're in the cave and it's not just 2 tunnels back. Who knows! The Scouts didn't make it to the back because of lack of time to try again. They were really spooked.
They had a great time!
