Today is July 28th and we have been in our new home since July 8th. Things have not gone as planned but we are grateful to be here. I would not recommend to anyone having to go on a vacation and pack for 8 the day after you move 3 semi truckloads and several car loads to a new home. We still are not completely out of the Ray Lane house. We have the laundry room shelves, the garage and the decorations in the attic yet to go. With that in mind, I would say that for being gone for 8 days of the 20 we've been here, we are doing pretty good. I helped finish Brookly's room last night and Josh's room the day before. Most of my room is done and the kitchen. The bookshelves in the living room and upstairs are done. So there is lots of progress in between the absolute chaos of getting 6 kids enrolled in school, outfitted for school, physical therapy twice a week for my back, loads of boxes to the recycle place, loads of junk back from the other house, cleaning the other house, kids appointments, tons of organizing and changing of address and info, new ward split on Sunday, and did I mention that our church records are lost for the last year!!!
Dallin, Josh and Brennen are missing their last ordinations and Jarom isn't recorded as being baptized. This is a major problem. Technically the boys shouldn't bless or pass sacrament if they aren't ordained. We don't have certificates to prove this and aren't sure we received any. Looks like we have to get signed sworn letters from 2 witnesses for each ordination to prove they happened at all. Oh, the joys! Adventures abound as we get little sleep and work constantly on both houses.
The day we moved in we found 3 scorpions in the garage. This freaked me out since in 19 years of marriage I've only seen one that was quite small at our old house. Come to find out they are the very venomous bark scorpions. This didn't settle my mind at all. We saw many roaches and crickets and knew what they were eating. The first night in our home Dallin and Josh were in the garage getting something and Dallin felt a web on his leg. Yes, black widow and all her glory was already atached to the sleeping bags in the garage that we had to take to Utah the next day. We've now officially killed 2 black widows, 4 scorpions in the garage, 1 in the hallway inside, 11 in our yard and 12 in the green belt behind our house. Wes makes a nightly scorpion hunt with the black light and only found 1 the last 2 nights. They are subsiding. We had our home sprayed the day after we moved in but it was vacant for a year or so before. All sorts of creatures claimed our home and needed kicked out! When Brookly almost stepped on the one inside in her bare feet when she got up in the morning I promptly went to buy scorpion spray. I found the good stuff that kills on contact and keeps killing them. We smash the ones we see but spray the ones too high on the walls. Truthfully I can't think about it too much or I couldn't sleep here ever.
Update on July 30th... Last night we didn't find any but today there was one in our laundry room light dead this morning and Wes just killed another in back yard. Yep, 30 scorpions! Becoming more scarce all the time. We hope to wipe them out for good:) Now some of those are in the greenbelt behind our house but could come into our yard so Wes does nightly scorpion hunts and the boys join him. He's in the greenbelt now...
I talked with Bishop Peterson and they are going to pull our records back into Ocotillo Ward, straighten it all out since I know the dates and who did the ordinances, and then send the records back to Vineyard Ward. We'll then have certificates to prove the ordinances and it should all work out. Whew! Even though I knew they were ordained it was stressful to think of this whole mess.
Tonight we went to a game night with several couples from the ward and had a great time and met the parents of several of the teenagers in the ward. The boys got home while we were there and are going to talk Josh into doing Marching Band with them. I think he'll love that! I'm going to stop here and do another post for the other events of the move as I have time.
